LINDA McCARTNEY (1941 - 1998)Born in Scarsdale, New York, on September 24th 1941, and educated in the city, Linda
McCartney’s passion for photography began in the early sixties. Although her formal
training extended to just two lessons on photography that she attended at a
night school whilst studying as an art history major at the University of
Arizona, the pictures by Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange and Edward
Weston that she discovered there – along with her later introduction to
the photography of Edward Steichen – inspired and influenced Linda’s
work. |
After turning
professional in the mid-Sixties, Linda’s distinct style of capturing the
un-posed and the naturally lit resulted in acclaim for her photography and
throughout the world. Her pictures chronicled the musical revolution of the
decade at its heart as she photographed many musicians including The
Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, B.B. King, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Frank
Zappa, The Beach Boys, The Who, Cream, The Kinks, Traffic, The Byrds, Jimi
Hendrix and, ultimately, The Beatles. Almost thirty years
after she first photographed The Beatles, she was the only photographer to
record their historic reunion for The Beatles Anthology.
